Trekking to Descabezado Grande Volcano, Forests and Hot Springs

Entering majestic oak forests, perceiving their shapes, their great aroma and enjoying their shade on sunny days, are simple things that stand out and are appreciated. The ascent to the magnificent geological platform of Enladrillado, located at more than 2,500 meters above sea level, enjoys a superb view of all the surroundings and the deep mountain valleys that surround it. The journey to the Descabezado Grande volcano, from Altos de Lircay, inland from Talca, is simply a constant discovery of varied landscapes during our journey. Plains, rivers, hot springs, forests, volcanic scoria, estuaries and high-altitude plains in places that are difficult to believe there is life. Exploring and traveling to the imposing Descabezado Grande volcano is to discover and recognize a part of the origins of life and how it was gestating and gaining space. A true open-air geology and botany lesson, accompanied by interesting volcanic manifestations that we can enjoy by soaking in hot springs.

ITINERARY

DAY 1: ALTOS DE LIRCAY RESERVE – EL ENLADRILLADO – VEGA DEL TRAILE

After leaving our luggage at 8:00 a.m. with the muleteers, who will load the mules, we will begin our journey through an extensive Nothofagus forest. The first section leads through a route of gentle slopes through the beautiful Maule forest, famous for the incredible reddish and reddish tones that the deciduous trees acquire during the fall. The trail is always a wide and clear track, which goes into the Lircay River valley, crossing the slopes of Peine Hill. At noon we will begin the ascent to the summit of Enladrillado, located at 2,500 meters. This is a splendid place from where you can see from above the wide Deer Valley and the Andes mountain range represented by the Descabezado Grande volcano, Quizapu volcano, and the Azul volcano. Then, we return to camp at Las Vegas del Traile. B, B, D

DIA 2 : VEGA DEL TRAILE – VALLE DEL VENADO

After breakfast in the middle of the forest, we'll continue for an hour to reach the Deer Valley viewpoint. We'll descend forest-filled slopes with sweeping views toward the Andes Mountains, leading us to the river bed. We'll continue along the riverbed for 3 km until we reach a forest again, which will lead us to the Deer Valley. Our campsite and rest stop is B-BL-D.

DAY 3: DEER VALLEY – VOLCANO HOT SPRINGS

After a rich breakfast, we continue along a trail through a native forest which runs parallel to the imposing scoria, a silent and shocking vestige of the lava that the volcano spewed during its eruption in 1932. After passing the forest we will change environment and scenery to walk along a trail that gently ascends to the foot of a rocky mountain range. At approximately 1:00 p.m., we will take a break and then begin walking along the side of the Blanquillo River until we reach the large plain that gives great life to the area, which is located at the foot of the volcano. DAY 4: ACTIVE REST – TREKKING TO THE WATERFALLS

This day we'll wake up a little later and have a delicious breakfast. It's a very relaxing day, where we'll have the opportunity to walk around, observe, understand the place we're visiting, analyze, and draw our own conclusions. Bring binoculars for birdwatching. B/B/L/D

DAY 5: VEGA DEL VOLCAN – MANANTIAL PELADO LAGOON

We will continue our hike upriver along a marked trail of volcanic rocks. This activity will teach us and surprise us with the secrets and contrasts we discover. These trails are covered by ancient, small white lava flows that, from a distance, give the impression that everything is covered in snow. We will be amazed by the discovery of small flowers and green spaces amidst this gigantic contrast. In the afternoon, around midday, we will reach Laguna del Portezuelo, where we will set up camp and have the opportunity to swim and refresh ourselves. B-BL-D

DAY 6: LAGOON OF THE SOULS – EL BOLSON

This day we will begin our descent from the Azufre hot springs toward the El Bolsón baths. Beautiful scenery amidst magnificent views awaits us on the descent, before arriving at the El Bolsón area after a 7-hour hike. Our campsite awaits us with a great snack and dinner. B, B, D

DAY 7: EL BOLSON – ENGLISH PARK – ALTO DE LIRCAY HOTEL

After breakfast, we can visit and swim, if we wish, in the large crystal-clear pools of the El Bolsón sector. Once this activity is complete, we will continue our descent through a pleasant oak and cypress forest until we arrive, after 3.5 hours, at the Parque Inglés sector, where our transfer will be waiting for us to take us to the hotel.
