Trekking El Enladrillado

El Enladrillado is perhaps the most famous natural attraction of the Altos de Lircay National Reserve, located in the San Clemente commune, Maule Region. Without a doubt, it is a unique place given its peculiar geography, the overwhelming beauty of the surroundings and also, the myths that surround it.

The favorite route of extraterrestrial beings

La ruta favorita de seres extraterrestres

Where does the name Enladrillado come from?

The answer to this question, often difficult or impossible to answer, is obvious in the case of this excursion: the surface of this plateau is covered by strange basaltic rock formations, resembling a series of "bricks" juxtaposed in an incredibly orderly fashion. While this phenomenon points to volcanic activity from bygone eras, its sterile, lunar-like surface—almost unnatural, one might say—has fueled the belief that it is actually a landing strip for visitors from other parts of the galaxy. Added to this is the large number of UFO sightings reported in recent decades, all of which has turned the Enladrillado into one of the most important centers of UFO tourism in Chile.

We will distribute snacks and walking sticks, and then begin the trek at 2:00 PM. This will take us through a beautiful nothofagus forest, where we will surely have the chance to hear the chucao and listen to the beautiful woodpecker drilling into the trees. Arrival at camp at 7:30 PM.

C (C = DINNER)

DAY 2: After a leisurely breakfast, our tour begins. The first section leads through gentle slopes in the beautiful Maule forest, famous for the incredible reddish and brown hues that the deciduous trees acquire during the fall. The trail is always a wide, clear path that goes through the Lircay River valley, following the foothills of Cerro Peine. The second part of the route is more demanding, now climbing uphill, covering about 500 meters of elevation gain in just over 3 kilometers. This last section makes this route a somewhat more challenging route, but it is still within reach of any landscape lover who is comfortable walking trails for several hours a day, assuming the normal difficulties that the activity entails. For someone in good physical condition, going to and from Enladrillado from the reserve entrance can be a feasible excursion to complete in a long day. Return to the hotel at 6:00 PM.
